First Semester : May 2023

    After being accepted as a student at Open University Malaysia, I commenced my studies in the May 2023 semester. Initially, I was apprehensive about balancing my workload and frequent outstation commitments. During this semester, I enrolled in just two subjects: HMID5003 PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN and HMLT5203 LEARNING DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY. Prior to the start of the May 2023 semester, my Learning Centre in Kuching hosted numerous orientation sessions for new students, and I was fortunate to attend one at the Kuching Learning Centre. The Director of the Learning Centre was incredibly welcoming. The May 2023 semester presented challenges as I juggled my responsibilities. However, Open University Malaysia (OUM) impressed me with its flexibility, particularly in the MIDT programme, where students have the option to participate in eTutorial sessions. Those unable to attend have access to the session recordings on myInspire, which I found to be a valuable learning resource. As I mentioned previously, active engagement in the Forum, addressing queries from lecturers and peers, and timely submission of assignments are crucial.

First of all, thank you for taking the time to ask your question. Before I answer your question, I would like to state that one of the things I am concerned about before deciding to enroll in the MIDT program at OUM is related to the attendance of lectures/tutorials.

 

For your information, the classes for the MIDT OUM course are called eTutorials. In each semester, there are usually 10 eTutorial sessions, but it may vary depending on the respective lecturers. Attendance for each eTutorial is not mandatory, but you are encouraged to participate in the scheduled sessions set by the lecturers. If you are unable to attend the eTutorial session, you will not be penalized. You can still access the recorded eTutorial sessions that will be posted by the lecturers in our myINSPIRE platform. What is important is active participation in the ONLINE CLASS PARTICIPATION (OCP)/Forum and completing assignments according to the specified deadlines.

        However, the tuition fees for this program also depend on the number of courses you will register and take in that semester. When I registered, I was given a small discount because I am an OUM alumni.
